Dimpling Chin

Chin dimpling, sometimes called pebble chin or orange-peel chin, is caused by overactivity of the mentalis muscle, the paired muscle at the tip of the chin that controls lower-lip movement and expression.

When the muscle contracts excessively, it creates a textured, uneven appearance across the chin surface. While completely harmless, it can make the lower face look tense or uneven.

At Haus of Ästhetik, we correct this safely and precisely through neuromodulator (botulinum toxin) treatments and, where needed, gentle dermal filler support to smooth and balance the lower-face contour.

Overview

  • Chin dimpling can occur in men and women of any age, though it is more visible from the late twenties onwards as the skin thins.

It may also appear following orthodontic or dental work where muscular tension compensates for alignment change.

    • Uneven, “orange-peel” texture over the chin when speaking or smiling.

    • Visible dimpling or puckering at rest in advanced cases.

    • Deepened horizontal crease between the chin and lower lip.

    • Perceived imbalance or tension in the lower face.

  • There is no specific NICE or BNF guidance for mentalis-muscle overactivity (chin dimpling) treatment. Neuromodulator use here is clinician-led, based on anatomy and off-label indications.

  • 1. Botulinum Toxin (Mentalis Relaxation)

    • Small, targeted doses placed into the mentalis muscle relax overactivity.

    • Smooths the chin surface while maintaining natural lip movement.

    • Results visible within 7–10 days and last 3–4 months.

    • Fully compliant with MHRA and BNF POM regulations, prescribed and delivered by a qualified clinician.

    2. Teoxane RHA 2 or RHA 3 Fillers

    • Used where dimpling is accentuated by volume loss or deep creasing.

    • Restores gentle projection and softens the mental crease for a balanced profile.

    • Dynamic HA formulation preserves natural expression and speech movement.

    3. Mesoestetic Nexha Filler (HA + Succinic Acid)

    • Adds structural support while stimulating fibroblast activity and collagen production.

    • Improves tissue elasticity and texture over time, complementing toxin treatment.

    4. mesoestetic Age Element Firming Treatment

    • Strengthens dermal tone and resilience through peptides and antioxidants.

    • Reduces fine lines and enhances skin quality around the lower face.

    5. Combined Lower-Face Harmonisation

    • Integrates toxin, filler, and regenerative protocols for comprehensive smoothing, contour, and balance.

All injectables are prescription-only medical devices or medicines administered under CQC Regulation 12: Safe Care and Treatment, ensuring consent, traceability, and emergency-reversal readiness.

  • Suitable for adults with dynamic or static chin dimpling caused by muscle hyperactivity or mild structural loss.

Contraindications include pregnancy, breastfeeding, infection, or neuromuscular conditions.

A full consultation evaluates facial anatomy, expression, and expectations before treatment.

    • Botulinum toxin: smoother texture and reduced tension within 1–2 weeks, lasting 3–4 months.

    • Filler support: immediate softening and contour improvement, lasting 9–12 months.

    • Combined results yield a relaxed, refined chin contour and balanced lower-face appearance.

    • Avoid touching or massaging the chin for 24 hours.

    • Refrain from exercise, alcohol, and excessive facial movement for 48 hours.

    • Keep the area clean and hydrated; use Teoxane Deep Repair Balm or mesoestetic Fast Skin Repair for comfort.

    • Maintain daily SPF 30+ and schedule review at 2 weeks for refinement.

    • Repeat every 4–6 months to sustain results.

  • Book a Lower-Face Consultation at Haus of Ästhetik to analyse muscle activity, chin structure, and facial harmony. We will design a bespoke plan combining targeted neuromodulation and regenerative filler where appropriate.

All procedures are carried out under CQC Regulation 12: Safe Care and Treatment, with full consent, clinical oversight, and written aftercare. You will leave with smoother texture, natural movement, and renewed facial confidence.
