Dark Under Eyes

Dark under eyes, often referred to as periorbital hyperpigmentation or tear trough shadowing, are one of the most common aesthetic concerns.

They create a tired, hollow, or shadowed appearance even when well-rested. Causes can include skin thinning, pigmentation, vascular congestion, or loss of structural support beneath the eyes.

At Haus of Ästhetik, we identify the true cause, pigment, volume, or vascular tone, before tailoring a treatment plan that restores brightness, smoothness, and vitality to the eye area safely and naturally.

Overview

Dark under eyes, often referred to as periorbital hyperpigmentation or tear trough shadowing, are one of the most common aesthetic concerns.

They create a tired, hollow, or shadowed appearance even when well-rested. Causes can include skin thinning, pigmentation, vascular congestion, or loss of structural support beneath the eyes.

At Haus of Ästhetik, we identify the true cause, pigment, volume, or vascular tone, before tailoring a treatment plan that restores brightness, smoothness, and vitality to the eye area safely and naturally.

  • This concern affects both men and women, often appearing in early adulthood and worsening with age.

Those with lighter skin and prominent orbital hollows tend to show vascular darkness, while deeper skin tones may develop melanin-based pigmentation.

It is frequently seen in patients with high screen exposure, irregular sleep, or sinus congestion.

    • Dark or discoloured area beneath the eyes (blue, brown, or purple hue)

    • Hollowness or shadowing along the tear trough

    • Fine lines and crepey skin texture

    • Mild swelling or puffiness (especially on waking)

    • Fatigue or “tired look” despite adequate rest

  • There is no specific NICE guideline for the cosmetic treatment of dark under eyes, so we practise under general NICE principles of shared decision-making, thorough assessment and strong safety governance. The BNF guides any prescription element, for example safe prescribing and the reversal medicine held for hyaluronic-acid dermal fillers, rather than cosmetic technique. We are honest where the evidence base is limited.

  • Dark Under Eyes is typically supported with CE/UKCA-marked hyaluronic-acid dermal fillers (medical devices) and regenerative skin treatments, chosen to restore balance and support skin quality. Your plan may include:

    • Hyaluronic-acid dermal fillers, which are reversible; we hold the appropriate reversal medicine and emergency protocols for the rare event of a complication.

    • Skin boosters, polynucleotides or regenerative treatments to improve skin quality.

    • Professional skincare, resurfacing and LED to support the result.

    • Prescription options only where clinically relevant, considered after an in-person medical assessment.

Treatment is tailored to your anatomy, with the aim of natural balance rather than overfilling.

  • Suitable for most adults seeking improvement in pigmentation, hollowing, or fatigue-related darkness.

A thorough consultation assesses vascularity, pigmentation depth, and anatomical factors to determine suitability.

Contraindications include pregnancy, breastfeeding, active infection, or recent surgery in the periocular area.

  • Results depend on the option chosen and on individual factors, so we set expectations openly at your consultation. In general the aim is a natural improvement in dark under eyes rather than a dramatic change. Some treatments work gradually over several weeks as skin quality improves; others give a more immediate effect that then settles. Results are not permanent, vary from person to person, and are maintained on a personalised review schedule. We will not overtreat, and we welcome an honest conversation about what is realistic for you.

    • Avoid touching or massaging the area for 24 hours post-injectable treatment.

    • No makeup, alcohol, or exercise for 24 hours.

    • Apply cold compresses to minimise swelling if required.

    • Maintain hydration and daily SPF 50+ to prevent recurrence of pigmentation.

    • Use mesoestetic Melan Recovery or Teoxane R[II] Eyes for gentle home maintenance.

    • Schedule review appointments every 9–12 months for tear trough maintenance or sooner for pigmentation protocols.

  • The first step is always a face-to-face consultation at Haus of Asthetik. We assess your under-eye area, take a full medical history and discuss realistic, evidence-based options for dark under eyes. Any prescription element is provided only where clinically appropriate, following an in-person medical assessment and prescriber sign-off; we do not prescribe remotely. Treatments are for adults aged 18 and over only.

All care is delivered under CQC Regulation 12 (Safe Care and Treatment), with informed consent, product traceability and written aftercare, and our governance is kept in step with the forthcoming national licensing scheme for non-surgical cosmetic procedures. Individual results vary and are discussed honestly with you. If you ever feel distressed about your appearance, we are glad to talk it through and, where helpful, signpost further support.
