Overview
Acne is an inflammatory skin condition involving hair follicles and oil glands. It ranges from comedones to pustules, nodules, and scarring. It can affect confidence, sleep, and social life, so we treat the skin and the person. Management is tiered, combining medical therapies with skincare and procedures, following NICE guidance and NHS advice.
Most common in teens and young adults, though many continue into their 30s and 40s. It affects all skin tones and genders, with pattern differences due to hormones and lifestyle. Severity and impact vary, so treatment is personalised under evidence-based protocols.
Open and closed comedones, papules, pustules, nodules, cysts, post-inflammatory erythema or hyperpigmentation, and potential scarring. Truncal involvement is common. Psychological impact can be significant, which is recognised in NICE recommendations.
NICE issue recommendations in NG198: they advise giving people clear information about treatment options, the benefits and drawbacks of each, self-care, and mental health impacts.
They also advise a 12-week course of first-line topical treatment and limiting oral antibiotics to prevent resistance.
The BNF lists topical benzoyl peroxide, azelaic acid and antibiotics with prescribing guidance, explaining usage, dosage and contraindications.
Haus of Ästhetik in-clinic procedures and branded products:
Professional chemical peels for acne-prone and oily skin, including mesoestetic mesopeel salicylic 20 to 30 percent, keratolytic and sebum-regulating, suitable for face and selected body areas. Course based.
mesoestetic blemiderm range, clinic-grade protocols to regulate sebum, correct blemishes, refine texture, with homecare such as blemiderm treatment night cream containing azelaic acid.
Teoxane AHA Cleansing Gel for daily exfoliating cleanse in acne-prone routines, supporting pore clarity alongside medical care.
Suitability depends on acne type, severity, skin tone, pregnancy and lactation status, medication history, and mental health considerations. We screen for contraindications, allergies, photosensitivity, and isotretinoin status. Care is delivered in line with CQC expectations for safe, evidence-based treatment and clear risk communication.
With adherence, most first-line regimens show improvement within 6 to 12 weeks. Peels and structured skincare can speed texture refinement and reduce congestion. Scarring risk falls as active disease is controlled. Severe or scarring acne may require specialist therapies.
Use a gentle syndet cleanser, non-comedogenic moisturiser, and daily broad-spectrum SPF. Do not pick. Maintain the active regimen set in your plan, even after improvement, to reduce relapse. For peels, follow specific post-procedure guidance on sun protection and actives spacing.
Book a clinical skin consultation. We will grade severity, review medical history, allergies, current treatments, and goals. You will receive a written plan that may include prescription-pathway options to coordinate with your GP, clinic procedures such as mesoestetic salicylic peels, and evidence-based homecare from mesoestetic and Teoxane. Our practice operates under CQC’s Safe Care and Treatment requirements and MHRA safety communications for any prescription discussions, ensuring decisions align with NICE and BNF guidance.
