Medical PDO & COG Thread Lift Procedures
Lift, tighten, and stimulate collagen without surgery.
Service Description
PDO thread treatments are an advanced non-surgical procedure designed to lift, tighten, and rejuvenate ageing or lax skin. The treatment uses ultra-fine medical threads made from polydioxanone (PDO), a material that has been safely used in surgery for many years. These threads are carefully placed beneath the skin using a fine needle or cannula to provide support to the tissue while stimulating the body’s natural collagen production. As the threads gradually dissolve over several months, they trigger a process known as neocollagenesis, where the skin produces new collagen and elastin. This improves skin firmness, texture, and elasticity, meaning results often continue to improve even after the threads have dissolved. There are two main types of PDO threads, each designed for a slightly different purpose. Mono (Smooth) Threads Mono threads are smooth threads placed within the superficial layers of the skin. Their primary purpose is not to physically lift the tissue but to improve overall skin quality. They act as a collagen-stimulating scaffold, encouraging the skin to become firmer, thicker, and more elastic over time. Mono threads are particularly effective for areas where the skin has become thin, crepey, or mildly lax, such as the cheeks, jawline, neck, and under-eye region. COG (Barbed) Threads COG threads contain tiny barbs along the length of the thread which anchor into the surrounding tissue. These barbs allow the practitioner to gently reposition and lift the skin, providing an immediate structural lift. Over time, the threads also stimulate collagen production in the same way as mono threads, helping maintain support and improve skin firmness. COG threads are commonly used for lifting the mid-face, defining the jawline, elevating the brows, and improving sagging around the lower face and neck. The procedure typically takes 30–60 minutes and is performed using local anaesthetic to ensure comfort. Most patients experience minimal downtime, with mild swelling or bruising settling within a few days. Results are visible immediately in lifting treatments and continue to improve over the following months as collagen production increases. PDO threads offer a valuable option for patients who wish to restore facial structure, improve skin quality, and achieve a subtle lift without surgery.
