Haus of Ästhetik Patient Information

Thank you for attending your consultation today.

You have been assessed as clinically suitable for treatment with Wegovy (semaglutide).

Wegovy is a prescription-only medicine used to support weight loss and long-term weight management, alongside dietary changes and physical activity.

How Wegovy Works (Simple Explanation)

Think of Wegovy as a satiety amplifier.

It mimics a natural hormone (GLP-1), which:

* Reduces appetite

* Slows stomach emptying

* Helps you feel full sooner

* Reduces calorie intake

In practical terms, it makes smaller portions feel like a full meal.

What You May Experience After Starting

This is where most patients need reassurance.

Common effects include:

* Nausea (very common initially)

* Reduced appetite

* Feeling full quickly

* Constipation or diarrhoea

* Mild fatigue

These effects are expected, dose-related, and usually temporary, particularly during dose escalation .

How to Use Wegovy (Critical Section)

Dosing Schedule

Wegovy is introduced gradually to reduce side effects:

* 0.25 mg once weekly (4 weeks)

* 0.5 mg once weekly (4 weeks)

* 1 mg once weekly (4 weeks)

* 1.7 mg once weekly (4 weeks)

* 2.4 mg once weekly (maintenance dose)

Dose increases occur only if tolerated and clinically appropriate.

Frequency

* Inject once per week only

* Use on the same day each week

* Can be taken any time of day, with or without food

Injection Technique (Auto-Pen)

Wegovy uses a single-use auto-injector pen.

* Inject under the skin (subcutaneous)

* Sites:

* Abdomen

* Thigh

* Upper arm

How it works:

* Press pen firmly against skin

* You will hear a click

* Hold until the yellow indicator stops moving (≈10 seconds)

* Remove pen and dispose

No needle handling required.

Missed Dose Advice

* If more than 48 hours before next dose → take it as soon as possible

* If less than 48 hours → skip and continue as normal

If multiple doses missed, clinical advice may be needed before restarting .

The First 4–8 Weeks (Most Important Period)

This is where people either thrive or struggle.

Do:

✓ Eat smaller portions

✓ Eat slowly

✓ Stop when full

✓ Stay hydrated

Avoid:

* Large fatty meals

* Overeating

* Alcohol excess

Because gastric emptying is slower, overeating can feel like you’ve swallowed a bowling ball.

Managing Side Effects (Practical Advice)

If you feel nauseous:

* Eat bland foods (toast, rice, crackers)

* Avoid fatty or spicy meals

* Eat little and often

* Stay hydrated

* Avoid lying down after eating

Symptoms are usually mild to moderate and settle over time .

Storage & Handling

* Store in fridge: 2°C to 8°C

* Can be kept at room temperature (below 30°C) for limited periods

* Do not freeze

* Keep in original packaging

* Dispose after single use

Each pen = one dose only

Important Safety Advice

Contact the clinic urgently if you experience:

* Severe abdominal pain (possible pancreatitis)

* Persistent vomiting or dehydration

* Signs of gallbladder issues (upper abdominal pain)

* Lump in neck or difficulty swallowing

* Allergic reaction (swelling, breathing difficulty)

These are uncommon but clinically significant risks .

Lifestyle Expectations (Where Results Come From)

Wegovy helps… but it does not do the work for you.

Best results occur when combined with:

* Calorie awareness

* Protein-focused diet

* Regular activity

* Behavioural consistency

Think of it as:

“Turning down hunger so you can make better decisions more easily.”

Give your body time to adjust, respect your appetite signals, and avoid forcing food when you are full.

If something feels off, ask. Early advice prevents problems.
