Double Chin

A double chin, or submental fullness, refers to excess fat or skin beneath the jawline that blurs facial definition and balance. It can occur regardless of age or weight, and is often resistant to diet and exercise.

At Haus of Ästhetik, we address double chins through evidence-based, non-surgical treatments that reduce localised fat, tighten the skin, and restore a defined, elegant jawline, all under medical supervision and in line with CQC and MHRA standards.

Overview

A double chin, or submental fullness, refers to excess fat or skin beneath the jawline that blurs facial definition and balance. It can occur regardless of age or weight, and is often resistant to diet and exercise.

At Haus of Ästhetik, we address double chins through evidence-based, non-surgical treatments that reduce localised fat, tighten the skin, and restore a defined, elegant jawline, all under medical supervision and in line with CQC and MHRA standards.

  • A double chin can affect both men and women across all ages. It is not exclusive to overweight individuals; even those of healthy weight may develop it due to hereditary fat storage patterns or tissue laxity. It typically becomes more noticeable from the mid-thirties onwards as skin elasticity declines.

    • Soft tissue fullness beneath the chin (submental area)

    • Reduced jawline definition

    • Sagging or “crepe” skin under the chin and neck

    • Heavier lower-face appearance

    • Shadowing or poor contour on profile photographs

  • No NICE guideline exists for non-surgical submental fullness (double chin) management; similarly, the BNF does not cover aesthetic fat-reduction agents for the double-chin area in detail.

  • 1. Aqualyx® (Fat Dissolving Injections)

    • A deoxycholic acid-based solution that breaks down fat cell membranes.

    • Fat is gradually metabolised through the lymphatic system over several weeks.

    • Safe, non-surgical alternative to liposuction with little downtime.

    • Requires 2–4 sessions spaced 3–4 weeks apart.

    • Conducted under medical prescription and MHRA / BNF guidance for injectable use.

    2. Teoxane RHA 4 or Ultra Deep (Jawline Definition)

    • Restores and enhances jawline contour following fat reduction.

    • High G′ fillers provide structural support, redefining the mandibular angle.

    • Works synergistically with Aqualyx to sharpen facial profile.

    3. Mesoestetic Firming Solutions & Age Element Firming Treatments

    • Clinical-grade tightening protocols improving collagen and elastin production.

    • Peptide complexes strengthen the dermis to reduce sagging and refine texture.

    • Excellent for post-Aqualyx skin quality improvement or standalone tightening.

    4. Collagen-Stimulating Therapies (Sculptra® or Polynucleotides)

    • Gradually restore skin tension and density over several months.

    • Ideal for patients with minimal fat but moderate laxity (“soft jawline”).

    5. LED Light Therapy (Red & Near-Infrared Spectrum)

    • Enhances post-procedure recovery and collagen synthesis.

    • Supports lymphatic drainage and improves skin elasticity.

All injectable and regenerative procedures are performed under CQC Regulation 12 and MHRA standards by medically trained practitioners, ensuring safety, traceability, and clear documentation.

  • Suitability is assessed during consultation with a full clinical examination of fat distribution, skin tone, and jawline structure.

Contraindications include pregnancy, breastfeeding, liver disease, uncontrolled diabetes, or active skin infection. Each plan is individualised to balance fat reduction with tissue support and skin tightening.

    • Fat-dissolving treatments: gradual reduction in submental fat within 4–8 weeks.

    • Structural fillers: immediate improvement in jawline definition.

    • Firming and collagen treatments: progressive skin tightening and smoother contour. Results typically last 18–24 months with maintenance. The profile appears slimmer, lifted, and more sculpted without surgery.

    • Expect mild swelling or tenderness for 24–72 hours post-Aqualyx.

    • Avoid massage, heat exposure, and alcohol for 48 hours.

    • Stay hydrated to aid lymphatic drainage.

    • Use gentle skincare and mineral SPF daily.

    • Maintain results with balanced nutrition, posture correction, and annual review sessions.

  • Book a Jawline & Submental Assessment at Haus of Ästhetik for a detailed facial profile analysis. We will identify whether the concern is due to fat, laxity, or volume imbalance and design a bespoke plan combining Aqualyx, contouring filler, and regenerative tightening.

All procedures are performed under CQC Regulation 12: Safe Care and Treatment, with full consent, documentation, and aftercare. You will receive a clear plan outlining stages, expected outcomes, and maintenance options for long-lasting, refined results.
